Welcome to the August edition of Partner Center Technical Corner. This month’s updates are designed to empower you to identify growth opportunities, manage customer and subscription scenarios with more predictability, strengthen customer confidence through specialized capabilities, and gain greater visibility across Partner Center.
Several of these updates put AI directly into the workflows your teams use every day. From sales recommendations to designation progress guidance, Partner Center is making it easier to move from insight to action.
For a look at what is coming next, review the Partner Center Technical Roadmap and resources at the end of this post.
Turn insights into growth
AI-powered growth recommendations
Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) partners now have AI-powered sales recommendations and business insights designed to identify potential growth opportunities, prioritize customer engagement, increase adoption, and grow revenue across your customer portfolio.
The first wave of recommendations focuses on upsell, seat expansion, Copilot monetization through free-to-paid conversions, Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat activation, Enterprise Agreement (EA) to CSP migrations, and targeted promotions. Recommendations are available through the Partner Center agent and the Customer Overview page, and each includes business context so you can evaluate the next best action.
Browse promotion details directly in Partner Center
You can now browse and download active promotions inside the Pricing workspace. The Benefits page includes a sortable table with product, SKU, discount, term, billing cycle, and eligibility details. Selecting a row opens a full details panel, making it faster to identify upsell and renewal opportunities and confirm whether a promotion applies before placing an order.
Manage your business with greater efficiency
Prepare for the launch of growth margin on October 1, 2026
Ahead of the October 1, 2026, launch of Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) growth margin, partners can prepare for the required API and UX changes using new documentation and sandbox environments. Growth margins offer partners driving Frontier Transformation more margin in the areas with the greatest growth potential. That means you can earn more when driving new-to-offer, seat expansion, and adoption for qualifying scenarios across select AI workloads. Offers are subject to eligibility, terms, and conditions. Eligible partners may open an Advisory Case with Microsoft's Partner Technical Consulting team. They can guide you through the API changes and support best practices for data export and billing automation.
New end of sale pricelist for software now available
Effective July 1, 2026, a new end of sale pricelist for software is available in Partner Center. The pricelist supports partners in identifying software products that are no longer available for new purchases and view pricing for upcoming subscription renewals. Prepare your systems to consume the new pricelist. Learn more about end-of-sale software pricing.
MFA enforcement for Partner Center APIs
Microsoft has implemented progressive enforcement of multifactor authentication (MFA) across Partner Center app+user APIs. Partners using app+user authentication should confirm their integrations are configured to support MFA and include a valid MFA claim to reduce the risk of blocked API calls. Review the Partner Center announcement for details and next steps.
Extended Service Terms enforcement enabled
Extended Service Terms (EST) give partners a clearer set of options for customers who do not want to renew their subscriptions. EST replaces the no-cost end-of-term grace period and gives partners three choices at renewal: renew, cancel, or continue on EST at the monthly rate plus a 3% uplift.
Convert on anniversary for three-year European Economic Area SKUs from with Teams to without Teams
Partners in the European Economic Area (EEA) can now convert three-year EEA SKUs with Teams to SKUs without Teams, based on customer needs. This provides partners with three-year terms to move customers to non-Teams SKU options without waiting until the full three-year term has concluded.
Webhooks for subscription status
Partner Center webhooks now let partners receive event-driven notifications when a customer’s subscription is activated, renewed, suspended, or canceled. Instead of continuously polling the APIs, each event arrives as a secure, digitally signed message to your registered URL. This enables your systems to react quickly, automate routine checks, and reduce load on Partner Center APIs.
New check inventory by resource type API
A new Check inventory by resource type API lets partners check catalog availability filtered by a specific resource type, such as VirtualMachines, SqlDatabases, or CosmosDb. This provides more scalable and performant inventory checks as Azure services grow in complexity. The new API replaces the existing Check Inventory API, which will retire on September 25, 2026. Migrate to the Check Inventory by Resource Type API before that date.
Gain greater visibility and control
Benefits modernization
Benefits modernization transforms both cloud and Azure benefits into a simpler, more scalable experience. Cloud benefits move from manual, key-based activations to streamlined keyless redemption and license management. Azure benefits move from user-based activations to direct credit deposits into an eligible Billing Profile. By aligning benefit redemption with billing accounts, standardizing expiration, and centralizing administration, the modernized experience is designed to reduce operational overhead, strengthen governance, and give partners greater visibility and control over benefits consumption.
Build trust and differentiate your capabilities
Microsoft 365 Copilot specialization
In July 2026, Microsoft renamed the Microsoft Copilot specialization to the Microsoft 365 Copilot specialization and updated its performance, skilling, and validation requirements to better align with market needs. As part of these changes, the customer references requirement was replaced with a third-party capabilities audit, providing independent validation of partner expertise. The updated specialization badge enables customers to identify partners with proven Microsoft 365 Copilot capabilities and the ability to deliver successful outcomes.
Audit checklists for all four Security specializations
Starting in August 2026, all four Microsoft Security specializations—Cloud Security, Data Security, Identity and Access Management, and Threat Protection—transitioned to an audit-based validation model. Audits are conducted every two years by an independent third-party auditor, funded by the partner, and assess a partner’s ability to deliver Microsoft Security solutions in real customer environments. Partners receive a Pass or No Pass outcome, including if they withdraw.
Partners affected by the transition receive a six-month extension to their anniversary date to prepare. Additional audit details will be shared over time, and partners are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the specializations and identify subject matter experts who can gather required audit evidence.
Specialization mergers
Three new Microsoft specializations have been introduced by merging existing, highly overlapping specializations into unified solution plays that better align with partner capabilities and real-world delivery motions:
- The Analytics on Microsoft Azure, Data Warehouse Migration to Microsoft Azure, and Business Intelligence specializations have been consolidated into a new Analytics on Microsoft Azure specialization.
- The Low Code Application Development and Intelligent Automation specializations have merged into the new Agentic Business Solutions specialization.
- The Kubernetes on Microsoft Azure and Migrate Enterprise Applications to Microsoft Azure specializations have combined to form the new App Modernization on Microsoft Azure specialization.
Partners enrolled in affected specializations were automatically transitioned to the corresponding merged specialization, with existing anniversary dates unchanged.
Clinical Applications specialization
A new Microsoft specialization is designed for partners who demonstrate expertise in deploying and driving adoption of Microsoft Dragon Copilot, an AI-powered clinical documentation solution for healthcare organizations. This specialization recognizes partners with healthcare domain knowledge, technical implementation skills, and proven customer success required to enable clinicians to streamline documentation, improve workflow efficiency, and deliver meaningful outcomes with AI. By earning this specialization, partners can differentiate their practice, strengthen customer confidence, and showcase their ability to deliver high-quality Dragon Copilot deployments at scale.
AI-powered recommendations in Modern Work Solutions Partner designation
New AI-powered recommendations are planned to support partners as they grow their business and accelerate progress toward Solutions Partner designation goals. These recommendations identify customers who are close to meeting eligibility thresholds and provide tailored upsell and cross-sell opportunities, including specific Microsoft 365 and Copilot SKUs that can increase customer adoption and unlock additional designation points.
By surfacing actionable next steps directly within the workflow, partners can more easily identify growth opportunities, drive customer success, and increase the value of their Microsoft practice. This capability is planned for release next quarter.
