Digital transformation for construction
Download case study
For architects, the distance from 2D blueprint to 3D reality is the distance from the earth to the moon. As a leading provider of mixed reality and service automation, Encoo is dedicated to solving the biggest challenges in the field of construction through technological innovation. Built on Microsoft HoloLens and Azure cloud, Encoo launched AMR smart design and HoloSite site management solutions to accelerate digital transformation. Based on data from the design model and panoramic photos of the construction site, HoloSite analyzes the site data using Artificial Intelligence technology available with Microsoft Azure to help architects, site managers, and contractors better communicate with each other. It is a powerful tool for designers and builders to meet commitments and deliver on time, in good quality, and under budget.
Backward design process
In the traditional sense of architectural design, architects' inspirations and ideas need to go from sketches, to coloring, computer 3D effect, micro-foam model, plane drawing, and more, before builders can break ground and start building. The design process is long and full of challenges, one being the lack of effective means and advanced 3D tools to visually display, communicate, and verify complex design considerations.
Inefficient construction management
Constant communication and coordination are critical during the building process. Not just between design and site management, but also among a large number of contractors and suppliers. Paper blueprint has been the primary communication vehicle for decades. Communication efficiency is low due to lack of 3D image and digital data. How to improve construction management and team collaboration with new technology is a major challenge.
Key features
- Breakthrough 2D limitation, designers can visually see design details in 3D holographic.
- Change things around using gestures, which greatly improves collaboration among design teams.
- Fully integrated with 360° panoramic camera and digital sensors, upload live construction progress to cloud for remote viewing by all involved to keep everyone on the same page.
Tailor-made for smart construction
Built on Microsoft Azure Cloud, AMR is a 3D display and management solution for architectural design firms and contractors, accessible and viewable by HoloLens and mobile phones.
HoloSite is an automated construction site monitoring and management solution. Panoramic cameras and sensors constantly collect and stream image data to the cloud for storage and analysis, supporting remote viewing by HoloLens.
Cloud-based, cross platform, easy to deploy
Encoo architectural design and construction management solutions use Azure cloud to automatically convert common design files to different mixed reality (MR) and augmented reality (AR) supported formats. Cloud-based, cross-platform capabilities enable any user access to any 3D files from anywhere, whether using a browser, mobile phone, a MR or AR device. Depending on business needs, customers can deploy the solutions quickly and easily, at a very reasonable cost.
Key benefits
- HoloLens gives architectural designers more creative insight and inspiration.
- Remote access and 360° view of the job site saves time and money on travel.
- Easily combining different design models enables a harmonious relationship between buildings and the surrounding area.
- Dynamic display of project progress with time dimension shows the relationship between the construction site and the greater ecological environment.
Partner with Microsoft to create best user experience
- Encoo is among the first batch of Microsoft Mixed Reality Partner Program (MRPP) partners. Microsoft assessed opportunities and risks of Encoo solutions and offered creative ideas as well as valuable advice in a number of areas to better prepare Encoo for market penetration.
- HoloLens plus Azure is rich and powerful, very suitable for the construction industry. Close cooperation with Microsoft helps Encoo plan and execute, with eyes towards technical and profit growth.
Results
- Encoo engineers benefited from the MR technical training in Microsoft headquarters. They overcame over ten technical hurdles, shortened the development cycle by 20 percent, and completed the prototype design well ahead of schedule.
- The MRPP saved Encoo at least 50 percent of PR and marketing expenses and helped us to quickly secure more than 20 prospective customers.
- Encoo has developed a three year product plan to take full advantage of Microsoft technology stacks to include HoloLens, Azure cloud, cognitive services, and machine learning.
