CGI enhances global reach through co-selling with Microsoft

“Healthcare claims fraud and abuse is a significant issue in today’s world.” said Dr. Robert Haskey, Senior Medical Director at CGI. According to Haskey, fraud and abuse encompasses a wide spectrum of activities, from deceptive billing for services never rendered, to furnishing services not medically necessary, to abusing payment rules by coding services at a level higher than actually performed.

"So far we have co-hosted five events and generated leads in nine new countries, including the U.K., Germany, France, and Australia…This highly coordinated effort involving multiple areas within Microsoft and CGI is a shining example of how two global organizations can achieve great things together."

Rob Rolf, Vice President, CGI

“These losses not only reduce a healthcare payer’s bottom line, but also reduce funds available for preventive care and treatment for people of all ages,” said Haskey, who added that healthcare claims fraud costs health insurers $250 billion per year globally.

In 2016, CGI announced the availability of CGI ProperPay in the Microsoft Azure cloud. CGI ProperPay is an end-to-end solution that dramatically reduces the likelihood of losses due to insurance claim fraud, waste and abuse. In the past five years alone, CGI government and commercial clients have recovered more than $2.1 billion of improperly paid medical claims.

According to CGI Vice President Rob Rolf, CGI ProperPay delivers significant benefits to health insurers globally. “We offer ProperPay in the secure cloud to help payers to prevent and recover lost money in order to preserve funds, be more competitive with pricing and products, retain members, comply with new requirements, and even improve patient care coverage.”

“By leveraging the Microsoft Cortana Intelligence Suite, including machine learning and analytics, CGI ProperPay will help transform the recovery of lost payments due to improper claims,” said Neil Jordan, General Manager of Worldwide Health at Microsoft. “The Microsoft Azure cloud provides industry-leading security measures and privacy policies, enabling CGI ProperPay to meet rigorous compliance standards and requirements with sensitive patient claim data.”

Technology integration is just one way CGI and Microsoft are collaborating. “The benefit of our collaboration with Microsoft goes beyond technical support and innovation to include Microsoft Go-To-Market Services to enhance our global reach,” Rolf said. “We identified early on that co-selling would best leverage the strengths of both organizations to expand our reach across current markets into new geographies.”

According to Rolf, co-selling efforts between the two companies are yielding positive results. “So far we have co-hosted five events and generated leads in nine new countries, including the U.K., Germany, France, and Australia.” he said. CGI and Microsoft have co-hosted events at prominent conferences, including the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Health IT Conference and National Health Care Anti-Fraud Association (NHCAA) Conference.

As a gold partner in the Microsoft Go-To-Market Services program, CGI has taken advantage of several exclusive benefits, including the development of business and marketing plans as well as a wealth of marketing materials. “Professionally-produced videos and pitch decks were created, enabling both field teams to quickly understand the solution and begin selling,” Rolf said. “Blogs were authored in support of the business challenge that is solved by CGI ProperPay, and the blogs were amplified across social media channels.”

Rolf believes that co-selling efforts between CGI and Microsoft will only continue to grow and expand in the future. “These early successes in generating qualified leads and pipeline reinforced this approach and we have now paired our field teams to work together across North America and Europe,” he said. “This highly-coordinated effort involving multiple areas within Microsoft and CGI is a shining example of how two global organizations can achieve great things together.”
