Inside Pax8’s partner-first model for SMB AI transformation

With deep enablement, experiential learning, and a robust cloud solution marketplace, Pax8 equips partners like Sourcepass to make AI accessible and scalable for SMBs.

May 7, 2026

From their early days of selling Microsoft licenses to becoming a leading cloud commerce marketplace, Pax8 has always centered their business on the Microsoft partner experience. And their future-focused, partner first approach is redefining what it means to be a modern Cloud Solution Provider (CSP). For Pax8, the next evolution of that role is the Managed Intelligence Provider (MIP)—a partner that moves beyond managing systems to orchestrating intelligence and delivering measurable business outcomes with AI.

While Pax8 delivers critical value through the streamlined billing and provisioning of Microsoft licenses, they also know that real business transformation doesn’t happen just because you’ve purchased software—it happens because of everything that comes after the sale. That’s why they invested heavily in enablement, education, and professional services. And that’s why today, they’re successfully cultivating an ecosystem that drives meaningful, scalable growth for partners and customers alike.

Grounded in their experience as a member of the Microsoft AI Cloud Partner Program, Pax8’s approach has changed the trajectories of organizations like Sourcepass, a US-based managed services provider (MSP).

Together, Sourcepass and Pax8 are making enterprise-grade AI accessible to small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs)—but they’re going beyond traditional deployments. They’re delivering functional, agentic solutions designed to help customers realize value and support recurring service opportunities.

Navigating AI adoption in the SMB reality

SMBs are under constant pressure to do more with less, and the business outcomes they need the most—efficiency, strong security, scalable growth—are the exact outcomes AI can deliver. But with limited budgets, it’s hard for SMBs to justify the spend without clear proof of value—no matter how interested they might be.

“SMBs hear about AI and want to be part of the wave,” said Elliott Eliason, Productivity Solution Consultant at Pax8, “but they don’t want to spend thousands without getting results back.”

And once they’ve made an investment in AI, they likely lack the internal resources to operationalize it. That includes preparing data governance, validating security controls, and teaching teams new workflows. For a partner like Sourcepass, who primarily serves SMBs, this means their customers need trusted, strategic advisors who can guide them in turning AI’s potential into tangible outcomes.

The path from managed services to managed intelligence

Pax8 believes “partners are the last mile between SMBs and AI transformation.” That’s why they provide the platform, enablement, and ongoing education for MSPs to close that gap. In doing so, Pax8 is guiding partners as they make the leap from traditional managed services to managed intelligence—shifting from reactive support to proactive, outcome-driven engagement powered by AI. Along the way, they advance a partner’s own AI transformation journey, giving them the comprehensive support—and competitive advantage—to thrive in the new AI frontier.

This starts with equipping partners with the tools and guidance to make the most of their Microsoft partnership and investments. “Part of my team’s mandate is to help make sure that partners are maximizing their Microsoft incentives, and making sure they're qualified for [Solutions Partner] designations,” Eliason said. Pax8 also conducts regular Microsoft business reviews to align with partners on goals and uncover new opportunities across Microsoft solution areas.

And if anyone knows Microsoft solution areas, it’s Pax8. Having attained the six core Solutions Partner designations—plus the Support Services designation—they’ve validated their capabilities and unlocked Microsoft benefits and support to test and refine real world adoption patterns. That validation is a crucial step before scaling guidance to partners like Sourcepass.

Sourcepass was a key member of Pax8’s AI Innovation Group—a cohort of 14 partners learning and exploring use cases for AI agents and advanced Microsoft technologies. Through bootcamps, hands on labs, and direct access to Pax8’s teams, Sourcepass got the dedicated training that set them up for success. All the while, Pax8 managed their backend operations, governance controls, and commercial infrastructure so they could stay focused on serving their customers.

“We're bringing resources that only Pax8 can deliver to them: our relationship with Microsoft, technical training, and programs that push them further and faster to learn technologies like Microsoft Copilot Studio, Foundry, and Fabric,” said Chance Weaver, Global VP of AI Adoption at Pax8.

The AI Innovation Group is just one of Pax8’s evergreen enablement programs—like Guided Growth, Kickstart programs, and Peer Groups—that strengthen partners’ capabilities across Copilot, Azure, and Security. These programs are designed to build on each other, moving partners from foundational skilling and experimentation to repeatable, customer ready execution.

Guided Growth in particular gives partners a structured progression path to work toward designations and specializations while scaling their Microsoft practices. And this dedicated enablement pays off: according to Pax8, partners participating in Guided Growth experience an average of 120% revenue growth.

Managed intelligence in action

In practice, Pax8’s enablement helped Sourcepass apply their capabilities in real world customer scenarios. When a logistics company needed a way to identify the best financing platforms based on customer profiles, for example, Pax8 worked side by side with Sourcepass to demonstrate how they would build an agent for that exact use case—and then they enabled Sourcepass to build it themselves with Microsoft Copilot Studio. They solved an immediate business challenge and opened the door to additional engagements—and recurring revenue—with the customer.

“Once you can identify a business problem and solve it through an agent, not only are you able to monetize the management of that agent, but it creates a snowball effect,” Weaver said. “It turns into multiple opportunities with that customer, and then [the relationship] becomes very sticky because you understand their business processes better than anyone else does.” It’s this shift—from deploying technology to engineering outcomes—that defines Pax8’s vision of the MIP.

The differentiator for Pax8 is that they pair this deep understanding of partner businesses with an equally deep understanding of Microsoft technologies—adopting them internally to build credibility, fluency, and proof of value. Eliason, for example, has been a faithful Copilot user since its early availability to build agents, refine internal processes, and analyze renewal opportunities.

“Copilot is actually helping me sell Copilot to our partners and to our customers,” said Eliason. “It’s been a crucially effective tool. Instead of manually going through and identifying who's a good target for renewals, [Copilot can] identify and get that information out to partners so [their sales teams] can act more efficiently.”

To maintain this level of AI readiness across their organization, Pax8 offers free Microsoft certification vouchers to all employees and syndicates Microsoft Skilling Hub content directly into Workday—including certification pathways, technical training, project based learning, and sales courses. They also offer Microsoft-aligned courses internally, with approximately 25 new certification paths or training courses added monthly.

Their firsthand experience has shaped how Pax8 advises partners on real, repeatable motions they can use with their own customers. More importantly, it gives partners a front-row seat to the immediate, tangible value that AI can deliver—and that SMB customers are looking for. And for customers, that means faster adoption, smoother deployments, and stronger long term outcomes—because partners are continuously skilling and delivering value on top of existing workloads rather than starting from scratch.

Paving the way for agentic AI and beyond

With Pax8’s guidance, Sourcepass has rapidly expanded its Copilot footprint to a growing base of SMB customers. This momentum reflects Sourcepass’s staged approach to Copilot deployment—starting with security and governance, then expanding across customer teams as readiness increased.

But for Pax8, this is just the beginning. With the soon-to-be-launched Pax8 Agent Store, partners will be able to easily access, deliver, and manage agentic AI solutions—regardless of their development expertise—with a seamless integration with the Microsoft Marketplace. Together with the MIP Playbook—Pax8’s strategic framework for partners to discover, build, sell, and manage agentic solutions—the Agent Store represents a critical tool in the MSP-to-MIP evolution.

For SMBs, these innovations mean enterprise-level AI is more accessible than ever before. And for partners like Sourcepass, it means scalable growth will come from forging deeper customer relationships, not just deploying technology. As Weaver puts it, these advancements will empower SMBs to achieve what was once possible only for large enterprises. And with the right partner, the possibilities are endless.
