That focus is why Batterjee Medical College (BMC)—a rapidly expanding private medical college in Saudi Arabia—partnered with Veeam to strengthen their data resilience strategy and ensure continuity as their operations, hybrid learning environment, and regional footprint continue to grow.

Building a scalable data protection approach

BMC has been undergoing significant change, working to elevate their teaching, clinical practice, and research through digital initiatives. The institution is also expanding their geographic footprint by scaling hybrid learning opportunities in the region and opening a new campus in Dubai, making BMC the first Saudi education provider to operate internationally. These initiatives placed growing pressure on the organization’s digital infrastructure, with data volumes increasing at an estimated 20% a year.

As BMC extended the use of cloud services while continuing to rely on their on‑premises infrastructure, the limitations of their existing solutions became more pronounced. Implementing a unified data protection strategy

To support the growing academic and administrative environment, BMC selected Veeam because they offered the ease of use, deployment flexibility, and operational simplicity the institution needed. “Veeam was the best option for us because it’s designed to work seamlessly for data in the cloud and on‑premises,” said Alsanbi. “Veeam doesn’t require any special training or advanced skills to set up and manage—any member of our IT team can quickly learn how to get the best out of the technology, making it a great investment for BMC.”

BMC worked with Veeam to protect workloads across on‑premises Windows and Linux servers as well as virtual machines hosted in Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365. BMC also incorporated secure, cloud‑based backup storage using Veeam Data Cloud Vault to support off-site retention. The resulting architecture established a centralized approach to data resilience across workloads, including maintaining multiple copies of data and regularly validating recoverability. As a result, BMC established a sustainable approach to data protection that can integrate well with other technologies and extend alongside future growth. The solution has positioned the IT team to support new campuses, expand hybrid learning initiatives, and manage growing data volumes without adding unnecessary operational complexity.

Delivering measurable improvements in recovery and efficiency

With a unified data resilience foundation in place, BMC significantly improved their ability to protect and recover critical systems across the hybrid environment. Recovery times for key workloads were reduced by approximately 80%, enabling the IT team to restore services after an outage in minutes rather than hours.

The new approach delivered strong results across operations and storage efficiency. By consolidating data protection across workloads, backup times were cut by half, and the overall effort to manage data protection was cut dramatically—freeing the IT team to focus on broader optimization and security initiatives.

Storage efficiency gains also helped BMC manage rapidly increasing data volumes more effectively. Built‑in compression reduced storage requirements, allowing the institution to better support expanded hybrid learning programs while preparing to open new campuses.
