Something fundamental is shifting in how partners create value, and it is moving faster than many expected. That shift is creating new opportunities for those ready to lead.

Across recent partner events and one-on-one conversations, we have heard a consistent message: customers are actively adopting AI and shifting toward becoming Frontier firms. They are moving AI from isolated experimentation to a core capability that drives execution, differentiation, and growth.

Now customers are asking a more consequential question: how do we rewire our businesses to operate as a Frontier firm? That question can reshape how you deliver value.

In this blog, we share how Microsoft is investing in the platform and programs that enable the partner-led path to becoming Frontier, so you can turn AI ambition into durable transformation.

The Frontier shift partners are witnessing now

Frameworks set the direction, but markets move when partners lead. In conversations with partners around the world, one point is clear: AI has moved from exploration to execution. Customers are no longer asking whether to adopt AI. They are asking how fast they can put it to work safely, at scale, and with measurable outcomes.

Take TD SYNNEX, for example. TD SYNNEX is turning “AI-ready” into a repeatable channel motion by connecting devices, cloud, and security into its “Better Together” approach. Instead of letting customers buy pieces of the stack in silos, the motion guides partners to modernize endpoints, secure the foundation, and then adopt Microsoft AI with confidence, at the scale distributors can bring.

Across these conversations, a clear pattern is emerging: partners are thinking beyond any single workload or product to drive end-to-end business transformation built on Azure. This is the Frontier narrative coming to life in the market.

What we are learning from partners on the front lines

In recent engagements with Azure partners across regions and partner types, the thing that stood out most is that winning partners learn in real time with customers.

There is a temptation in our industry to show up as an expert with all the answers. Our research points in a different direction. The partners building the deepest relationships right now are learning in real time, applying Frontier principles inside their own organizations before guiding customers through them.

“There’s no perfect readiness. System integrators stay relevant by living the Frontier principles themselves. You can’t guide others without first applying the approach internally.”
- CTO and Chief Architect, Global SI1

The implication is straightforward: your own transformation is not separate from your go-to-market. It is your go-to-market. That is why we are reshaping partner skilling around what moves deals. This includes agentic AI fluency and project-ready workshops designed to close the gap between training and customer delivery, so your teams can build capability they can apply on the next engagement.

The real challenge: scaling AI to production

Almost every partner we spoke with confirmed the same reality: customers have AI teams. They are building agents. The challenge is not getting started; it is scaling.

There is a stubborn gap between a successful proof of concept and scaled deployment. Partners cited familiar causes: unclear success metrics, weak business cases, and legacy infrastructure that was not built for what is now required.

“Companies don’t want to hear about another pilot. They need to see outcomes now. We tested for two years. How can you drive that?”
- Global Partnership Director, Global SI1

For partners, bridging this gap is one of the biggest opportunities to deliver value. It requires going beyond technical delivery to shape the business case, define measurable outcomes up front, modernize data estates, and secure executive sponsorship. The partners who consistently operationalize the pilot-to-production motion often earn the most strategic customer relationships.

The partner role has changed

One of the most striking findings is how the most successful partners are changing who they engage and how they engage. Many are moving beyond technical silos to align AI initiatives to business outcomes with CEOs, CFOs, CMOs, and other business leaders.

"CIOs don’t always consider what the CEO or CFO really wants AI to achieve, so it becomes a pet project that stalls. We’re evolving by linking AI to broader organizational goals and bringing the C-suite into the conversation.”
- Associate Director, Global SI1

This is the shift from a tool implementer to a business orchestrator. Frontier customers do not need a vendor to deploy a model. They need a partner who can redesign business processes, reinvent customer and employee experiences, and drive innovation at scale, while modernizing existing technologies and proving measurable impact.

Microsoft is built for this moment

Partners win when the platform absorbs complexity, so you can focus on transformation. Data and AI are no longer separate motions. What were once parallel tracks are converging into a single “data in service of AI” model.

Many partners are building end-to-end practices around Microsoft Fabric and Microsoft Foundry. At a high level, Fabric is positioned to reduce the integration overhead that often slows enterprise data work by bringing core data and analytics capabilities into a unified, governed experience. Foundry is positioned to provide a unified place to build, evaluate, and govern AI at scale, supporting different builder profiles from makers to developers.

The intelligent layer: Microsoft IQ

Microsoft IQ gives AI agents and Microsoft 365 Copilot a live, consistent understanding of the enterprise. It connects how people work, how the business operates, and what the organization knows, turning structured and unstructured data into shared context that AI can reason over. That foundation makes it possible to build and extend AI workflows that coordinate actions, improve decision quality, and scale more reliably across the business.

Fabric IQ brings intelligence into the data layer, empowering teams to surface insights faster through a unified model of the business, while Foundry IQ operates at the AI development and deployment layer, giving partners the scaffolding to build, evaluate, and govern production-grade AI agents at scale.

Work IQ brings it all to the surface inside Microsoft 365 Copilot, putting intelligent, context-aware agents directly into the flow of work. Microsoft IQ also extends Entra identity and Purview sensitivity labels across agent interactions, supporting AI operation within existing security and compliance boundaries and enabling trusted scale, faster time to value, and higher-quality decisions.

Microsoft Agent 365: Designed to deliver on trust

As organizations move from experimenting with AI to deploying it at scale, a new challenge is emerging: how to manage a growing ecosystem of AI agents. Microsoft Agent 365 is designed to be the trust platform for the enterprise AI era. Partners and their customers can visualize an AI solution running in their environment, whether built on the Microsoft platform or another. You can see how users are interacting with agents, give agents identity the same way you give an employee identity, and control their access to data the same way you manage access for your workforce.

This model is open and heterogeneous; it works across diverse environments, not just Microsoft-native deployments. For customers who have invested in governance and security infrastructure, Agent 365 is a tool to make AI extend those controls rather than bypassing them.

Microsoft Agent Factory

In parallel, Microsoft Agent Factory enables movement from concept to production by bringing Copilot Studio, Microsoft Foundry, GitHub Copilot, and Fabric into a single, pre-purchase AI plan with built-in customer skilling. Partners can layer on advisory, implementation, managed services, and Center of Excellence offerings to deliver differentiated, end-to-end solutions backed by Microsoft IQ.

What makes Agent Factory especially powerful is its range: business users can build with low or no code in Copilot Studio, while developers can use Foundry and GitHub Copilot for production-grade development, evaluation, and deployment.

This empowers partners to address more customer needs in a single engagement, while extending familiar identity, access, and compliance controls to agents, so organizations can scale with the visibility, trust, and governance the enterprise requires.

Accelerating database modernization

Legacy data estates are one of the top friction points for stalling Frontier progress. Customers can’t run AI effectively on fragmented, siloed infrastructure. Azure SQL and the broader Microsoft database portfolio give partners a modernization path that meets customers where they are, whether migrating on-premises workloads, consolidating legacy systems, or building cloud-native. This is the essential work that makes AI outcomes possible.

That is why we recently announced Azure Accelerate for Databases, a dedicated investment that extends Azure Accelerate into data estate modernization with targeted incentives, technical enablement, and co-sell support for partners leading these transformations.

Investments to move faster

The platform is in place. With the Microsoft AI Cloud Partner Program, we are backing this shift with focused offerings and investments designed to accelerate speed to market.

Across the partner journey, these investments span benefits that accelerate solution readiness, including AI and agentic product access, Copilot Studio and Microsoft 365 Copilot seats, and Azure credits tied to build and delivery. Designations and specializations signal to customers which partners are ready for agentic AI, digital sovereignty, and support services.

Partner Marketing Center is a unified, AI-powered engine for campaign creation, demand generation, insights, and AI translation at scale that is designed for you to localize, co-brand, deploy faster, and run a pipeline engine that matches how customers actually buy.

Speed is now a market signal. Customers are no longer deciding whether to invest in AI, but which partners can move from idea to implementation fastest, with live builds in weeks, not months. Microsoft’s Hypervelocity Engineering framework is built for that reality, and the Frontier Transformation Engineer badge gives both engineers and AI practice leads a practical way to demonstrate readiness, strengthening individual capability and practice-level credibility.

Paired with the Frontier Partner specialization, it signals that a firm can design, build, deploy, govern, and secure AI agents end to end. Launching in July, the specialization requires strength across Copilot, AI, security, and identity, along with certified talent and delivery capability, positioning partners who start now to lead as demand accelerates.

In addition, we are reinforcing that momentum with continued Marketplace investments, including multiparty private offers and resale enabled motions, giving partners more ways to transact and grow through the channel while simplifying the path forward with clearer programs, better tooling, and more predictable structures—because speed matters in this market.

How to take action now

If you want to lead in the Frontier firm era, the path is becoming clear:

  • Prioritize a repeatable pilot-to-production motion. Define success metrics early, anchor to outcomes, and build the governance model before you scale.
  • Build your “data in service of AI” foundation. Modernize the data estate, standardize governance, and align your delivery model to production requirements.
  • Invest in skilling that maps to delivery. Focus on agentic AI fluency, security and identity fundamentals, and workshop-based delivery that accelerates implementation.
  • Strengthen your go-to-market signals. Validate your status in Partner Center, pursue relevant designations and specializations, and keep your Marketplace presence current.

Stay connected

The platform is ready, the programs are taking shape, and the partners who move now will lead. Here are a few ways to stay connected:

The partners at the leading edge are not waiting for the market to settle. They are investing in their own transformation, co-creating with customers, and building on Azure.
