A new fiscal year often begins before everyone is ready. If MCAPS Start for Partners arrived while you were wrapping up July, managing customer priorities, or taking some time away, now is a good moment to reconnect. What matters most is not whether you attended live, but what you do with the FY27 guidance from MCAPS Start now that you are back at your desk.
As the new Microsoft fiscal year (FY27) gets underway, partners are turning their focus to planning, customer engagement, and execution. If MCAPS Start for Partners coincided with customer priorities, other commitments, or time away, now is a great opportunity to explore the guidance and resources available. Whether you joined the live sessions or are engaging with the content now, what matters most is having the insights and tools you need to make the year ahead a success.
The MCAPS Start keynotes and sessions are available on demand, and the Microsoft Partner FY27 GTM Kickoff offers a deeper look at the year’s go-to-market priorities. Additionally, Microsoft has released new resources to help partners turn that strategy into action across skilling, benefits, Microsoft 365 Copilot, marketing, Microsoft Marketplace, cloud, AI, security, and partner operations.
With brand new information and guidance, here is a practical way to get started.
Start with the shift from kickoff to execution
MCAPS Start for Partners established the direction for partners: build differentiated capability, go to market with greater reach, and align with Microsoft sellers to turn customer opportunities into business outcomes. The sessions from this event are now available on demand to watch and share with your team.
The Microsoft Partner FY27 GTM Kickoff then dives into our priorities across AI Business Solutions, Commercial Cloud and AI, and Security. You can now play the session videos and download the presentations along with the transcripts.
When it comes to Frontier Transformation, customers are moving from experimentation toward implementation, creating an opportunity for partners to connect their capabilities to real customer needs and measurable outcomes.
A customer may need to modernize applications, infrastructure, or data before AI can scale. Another may be ready to build agents or redesign a business process. Others may be focused on Microsoft Copilot adoption, security, governance, or creating new AI-powered products and services.
The right starting point reflects where each customer is along their AI journey and the outcomes they want to achieve.
Pick the customer conversation you want to lead
The Microsoft FY27 go-to-market approach is increasingly organized around customer conversations that connect foundational modernization with AI transformation.
Frontier Accelerate provides a framework for thinking about that journey. Core Conversations focus on areas such as cloud and AI readiness, migration and modernization, data and platform modernization, security, and Copilot adoption. Frontier Conversations extend into emerging opportunities such as agentic AI and AI-powered business transformation.
The question for partners is practical: Which conversations are you best positioned to lead today, and which capabilities will enable you to lead the next one?
New research illustrates why that next conversation matters. In a Microsoft-commissioned Total Economic Impact™ study, Forrester Consulting modeled the potential Azure services opportunity for a composite small and medium-sized business (SMB) customer. The study estimated $23,278* in expected partner revenue over three years based on observed attach rates, compared with $95,000 in total potential services opportunity across the customer lifecycle. That broader opportunity spans Azure migration, data platform modernization and unification, and Azure AI and agentic solutions. ¹
The same pattern appears at enterprise scale. In a separate Microsoft-commissioned TEI study (download pdf), Forrester modeled approximately $3.0 million in expected partner revenue for a composite enterprise customer over three years, with a total potential partner opportunity of approximately $5.7 million. The research points to data platform modernization and unification, AI and agentic solutions, solutions development, and managed services as important areas for longer-term partner value.²
For partners, this reinforces the value of a land-and-expand approach. A migration can establish the cloud foundation and customer relationship. From there, partners can identify opportunities to modernize and unify data, introduce AI and agentic solutions, and provide managed services that create recurring value over time. The opportunity will vary by customer, but the progression gives you a way to connect today’s project with the customer’s longer-term transformation priorities.
The FY27 Frontier Transformation GTM Partner Playbooks are designed to enable that partner planning. Separate guidance for SMB and commercial business partners connects customer priorities with readiness, go-to-market motions, Microsoft investments, and seller alignment. For partners serving SMB customers, this tailored guidance is particularly useful because the path to AI value often brings productivity, security, governance, affordability, and business process outcomes together in one practical motion.
Choose one or two customer conversations where you can create the most immediate impact. Clarify the desired outcome, identify the next decision or technical milestone, and consider what could logically follow as the customer’s needs evolve. Then bring in the Microsoft resources that can move that conversation forward.
Turn FY27 resources into business action
The FY27 priorities are clear. The resources released since MCAPS Start can now enable you to put them into action.
Start with the Microsoft AI Cloud Partner Program. Review the benefits you already have, activate resources you are not using, and determine whether partner benefits packages, designations, or specializations align with the business you want to build. The objective is not simply to collect benefits. It is to map the right resources to work against a real business priority.
The next step is to review the most relevant motions for your customers. For Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) partners serving SMB customers, that may include creating a more deliberate Microsoft 365 Copilot adoption motion. Copilot in 30 offers a guided 25-user, 30-day Microsoft 365 Copilot Business trial designed to move customers from AI curiosity toward hands-on adoption. Confirm current eligibility and program requirements before positioning the offer.
For marketing teams, FY27 is also an opportunity to rethink how you create demand. Customers increasingly research independently and use AI as part of how they discover and evaluate solutions. Review the FY27 cooperative marketing guidance and explore Partner Marketing Center Pro to determine how available investments and AI-powered campaign capabilities can strengthen your demand generation motion.
If your growth strategy includes Microsoft Marketplace, make your presence there part of your FY27 plan. Customers now expect to discover, evaluate, and purchase cloud and AI solutions through digital marketplaces. Review your offers, sharpen the customer outcomes you communicate, and look for opportunities to increase discoverability and connect software and services expertise to the way customers want to buy.
Hosting and hybrid cloud partners have another starting point. Rather than treating modernization as an all-or-nothing infrastructure change, look for a phased path that preserves what customers rely on today while creating opportunities for higher-value services across Azure, hybrid, and AI-ready scenarios.
And if you operate through CSP, include operational readiness in the plan. Review the latest Partner Center and CSP technical guidance and make sure changes that affect your business are reflected in your systems, processes, and customer planning.
Build the capabilities behind the plan
Execution also depends on whether your teams have the skills to deliver what you are taking to market. AI readiness is broader than expertise in a single AI product. Partners need teams that understand how cloud infrastructure, data, security, governance, agents, and business applications all work together.
Use the Microsoft Partner Skilling Hub to turn that into a focused capability plan. Depending on your priorities, that could mean validating Frontier Transformation expertise, building agent and AI platform skills, preparing for role-based certifications, or using hands-on workshops to move from product knowledge toward customer-ready delivery.
The key is to connect your learning to the customer conversations you want to lead. Identify the expertise you already have, the gaps that could slow execution, and the next learning or certification step that strengthens your ability to deliver.
