XentIT case study

XentIT helps KAMMCO migrate to Microsoft Azure and meet security requirements

On-premises urgency

KAMMCO, a provider of clinical data analytics, needed to quickly move to the cloud to address scalability and growth issues.

Migration teamwork

Microsoft partner XentIT worked with KAMMCO in a proof of concept to accomplish key migration and security goals.

Business success

KAMMCO made a secure transition to Microsoft Azure and, because of the successful proof of concept, purchased XentIT's Healthcare Cloud Security Stack (12-month contract).

A focus on cybersecurity and compliance

XentIT is an information technology firm specializing in cybersecurity and compliance, cloud technologies, DevOps, managed cybersecurity, and information technology resale and integration services. The company’s solutions mainly target healthcare, government, financial services, and education. XentIT has been a Microsoft partner for approximately three years, has a Cloud Platform competency, and is pursuing Cloud Productivity and Small and Midmarket Cloud Solutions competencies.

XentIT’s Healthcare Cloud Security Stack (HCSS) for Microsoft Azure helps entities use cloud services without losing focus on cybersecurity and compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). HCSS uses the Qualys Vulnerability Management, Policy Compliance, Trend Micro Deep Security, and XentIT Dashboard as a unified cloud threat management solution, helping entities eliminate the overhead of security automation and orchestration after migration to the cloud.

“Lack of understanding of the shared security model for cloud computing increases threats, risks, and vulnerabilities. Our cloud security stack for Microsoft Azure addresses those concerns and provides security and compliance through automation and orchestration.”

—Tariq Alvi, Founder and President, XentIT

KAMMCO’s challenges and migration

A healthcare organization’s success is dependent on data-driven decision-making. Inability to quickly access and process patient data because of outdated infrastructure may result in a life-or-death situation. KAMMCO needed to migrate to the cloud, but faced three significant challenges: replicating its robust, on-premises security infrastructure in the cloud, no knowledge or experience working in any cloud environment, and a three-month deadline handed down from executive management. KAMMCO signed up for XentIT's 30-day proof of concept and later asked for a 30-day extension.

XentIT’s HCSS for Azure, being an automated and integrated solution, was deployed and configured in four hours. The solution consists of Trend Micro Deep Security (Intrusion Prevention Systems, Anti-Malware, Firewall, File Integrity Monitoring, Log Inspection, Machine Learning, App Control, Web Reputation Service); Qualys Vulnerability Management and Policy Compliance, along with its virtual scanner and cloud agents; Ansible Tower for automation; and XentIT unified dashboard built on top of Splunk. Azure features used in the solution are network security groups, load balancers, data encryption, Key Vault, Web Application Firewall, SQL Server, and Storage.

XentIT’s comprehensive solution allowed KAMMCO to meet security requirements. With the help of XentIT’s subject matter experts, KAMMCO made a secure transition to Azure within the timeframe established by senior management. Because of the success of the proof of concept, KAMMCO purchased the 12-month subscription of HCSS and continues to work with XentIT to move more of its on-premises infrastructure to Azure.

“The Healthcare Cloud Security Stack provided a comprehensive solution, including a monitoring dashboard, that allowed us to meet our security requirements.”

—Andy Grittman, CIO, KAMMCO
