This learning path directs you to the MOOC courses you need to be ready for AZ-300, the first of two new Azure Solution Architect exams. (MOOC stands for massively open online courses.) PLEASE NOTE: This course on Openedx.microsoft.com only allows for registration using your MSA email account. The MSA account is the personal email account you use to sign in to Microsoft services like Hotmail, Skype or Xbox. Please follow these steps to access this course: 1. On a separate tab in your browser, go to Open EdX (https://openedx.microsoft.com) and click the “sign in” button to register with your MSA account. 2. On this learning path page, click the course you want to access. 3. You will then be taken to the Open EdX “about” page for that course, where you can click the “enroll” button. 4. Once you are enrolled, you will see the course in your Open EdX dashboard and you can then view and consume the course. We’ve also created a learning path for AZ-301, the second of the two new Azure Solution Architect exams. Together, these exams will test you on the skills required for the new Azure Solution Architect Certification (at Associate level). To earn the certification, you will need to pass both AZ-300 and AZ-301.
These exams are the replacement for exam 70-535. NOTE: if you’ve passed 70-535 and qualified for an MPN competency using 70-535, this is not the right learning path for you. Please focus instead on the learning path titled “Azure Solution Architect Certification – Transition Exam AZ-302”—this is specifically designed for those partners who have passed exam 70-535.
Why is Microsoft replacing one exam with two? Microsoft is transforming its strategy to produce role-based exams instead of technology-based exams. The role most closely aligned with 70-535 is a Solution Architect role. Microsoft conducted a thorough job task analysis (JTA) to truly understand the skills required for success in the Azure Solution Architect role. The skills were narrowed down to what is measured in the certification process—the end result was two exams. Microsoft defines the Azure Solution Architect role in this way:
Azure Solution Architect: A Cloud Solution Architect (CSA) advises stakeholders and translates business requirements into secure, scalable, and reliable solutions. CSAs have advanced experience and knowledge across various aspects of IT operations, including networking, virtualization, identity, security, business continuity, disaster recovery, data management, budgeting, and governance. This role requires managing how decisions in each area affect an overall solution. CSAs must be proficient in cloud administration, cloud development, and DevOps, and have expert-level skills in at least one of those domains.
