Imagination comes to life in the futuristic mixed reality (MR) classroom
Download case study
Teaching is full of both voice communication and physical interaction. Its value lies in the learning process, as well as in the results. Adjacent strives to create a new and open world of learning, a world that bridges both the virtual and the real life we live in. Our newly developed mixed reality holo classroom solution uses Microsoft HoloLens and artificial intelligence technology to enable advanced teaching scenarios. It is an end-to-end solution, a service and platform that delivers realistic virtual interactive teaching for the education and training industry and provides teachers and students with a truly natural and intuitive learning experience. In this space-age classroom you can literally touch imagination with your fingertips.
Traditional teaching methods cannot illustrate the world in dynamic 3D
We live in a dynamic 3D world, yet conventional teaching methods only show 2D images. Flat screens, being unable to display complex internal structures and relative spatial position, are the biggest obstacle. Traditional teaching aids are not interactive and only show the appearance of an object. It is not practical for students to dismantle large machines, such as an engine, just to play with it.
Difficult to communicate and interact in real time
Distance self-learning calls for strong voice recognition and communication capability. At the present time, most voice control devices/services require users to use fixed voice commands in specific formats in order for computers to understand the user's intention. That level of communication and interaction results in a poor learning experience and efficiency.
Key features
- Allows students to observe texture, relative position, and motion patterns at close range through dynamic 3D holographic imaging.
- Uses gaze and gesture to move and interact with images naturally, even overlaying on top of 3D objects in the real world.
- Supports real-time communication with teachers or other students.
- Identify needs based on language expression, auto return relevant learning content/data.
3D holo classroom learning
The solution consists of multiple HoloLens and local and cloud servers for information sharing. Adjacent pioneered 1+N+1 architecture for group collaboration, combined with HoloLens real-time communication capabilities to support group MR learning. Adjacent used Universal Windows Platform (UWP) framework for application development and Microsoft Cognitive Services to realize voice and semantic automatic recognition. AI behavior prediction is able to auto return content and data according to learning objectives.
Release endless imagination
Many biology and physics concepts are difficult to illustrate with traditional teaching aids and static pictures. Complex mechanical devices and architectural designs such as aircraft engines and building structures couldn’t be simulated in the classroom. In the past, teachers had to describe things with words, now those things can emerge in the MR classroom. Students used to imagine certain sights and objects in their mind, now they can see through HoloLens with their very own eyes.
Closely aligned with MRPP
- Adjacent is a certified MRPP partner. Core R&D team received technical training in Microsoft headquarter.
- As a member of MRPP, we also benefit from ongoing support from Microsoft in terms of product optimization and solution marketing.
- We have defined and developed six MR solutions: MR Classroom, MR for Vocational Training, MR for Enterprise Training, MR Showroom, MR Showroom for Automobiles, and MR for Design Review.
Results
- With strong support by Microsoft MRPP, Adjacent completed Holo Classroom core module development and verification in only three months.
- In partnership with Microsoft and the Ministry of Education, Adjacent is building 100 Holo Classrooms in China to showcase the latest innovation in education.
- HoloLens is stunning and eye opening. It has become the hottest product for us to attract new customers in and out of the education industry.
