The staffing company Kelly Services has been a worldwide leader in the industry for over fifty years, serving clients around the globe who look to fill their positions with the best talent match. At Kelly Services they know that in order to lead in a highly competitive market, they need to adopt innovative and flexible tools that provide great services to their customers.

Kelly Services today places nearly one million people in jobs every year - from finance professionals to education roles, IT and engineering positions, lawyers, scientists or healthcare workers. Using the latest Cloud-based technology is a critical part of their competitive advantage. They achieve more by having the best-of-breed Cloud collaboration tools that enable their passionate employees to work more productively to attract the best top talent.

Speed and agility are crucial in the talent acquisition market

Given the level of competition, if you want to be successful in a time-sensitive sector, you have to be ahead of the game to fill clients’ open roles in the shortest possible time.

“It’s important for Kelly Services employees to be able to respond faster to our customers’ requests. If our teams can’t find the right talent the fastest, our competitors get the business”, says Nicole VanHaren, IT Director, Global Infrastructure, Endpoint and Collaboration.

How do they achieve their speed of service? How is Kelly Services able to place nearly one million people in jobs in the fastest and most efficient way?

“What lets us do this better than anyone else is our workforce, our collaborative culture, and our technology”, concludes Nicole.

Firstly, their employees are passionate about finding the best talent. Secondly, they leverage the internal network and capabilities through technology, with Cloud-based platforms, such as Skype for Business, that allow teams to work together to find and match the right people for the client in just minutes, not days.

Cloud-based solutions that make a disruptive company

Kelly Services knows that adopting the Cloud is an invaluable aid in becoming a disruptive company. Back in 2009 they moved a business-critical tool, email, to Exchange Online, a component of Microsoft Office 365, to increase the pace of their deliveries and to reduce costs.

From then on, they started introducing more Office 365 services to their IT model, and currently, their workers are avid users of Microsoft Cloud productivity services. “We love how rapidly Office 365 is evolving,”, says Timothy Kroeger, Manager of Global Messaging and Collaboration Services at Kelly Services. “We continuously get more value for our money and deliver more services with smaller support needs.”

The uses of Microsoft Office 365 and Power BI that the staffing company is making are many and varied, as described in the Kelly Services case study published by Microsoft (July, 2016). Kelly’s employees are empowered to collaborate in multiple ways.

Skype for Business

They have replaced the traditional process of sending out a document for review via back and forth emails. Instead, employees can use Skype for Business Online and the person is able to see if the document’s author is online, share desktops to review materials or come up with ideas to finalize the work remotely.

OneDrive for Business, SharePoint Online and Office Delve

Enabling a solid file sharing system among employees, regardless of where they sit, is another key success factor. Kelly staffing consultants can store all their documents in Microsoft OneDrive for Business, share them via Microsoft SharePoint Online, and use Office Delve to find all the documents that they require.

With OneDrive for Business, giving feedback becomes a simple task and a team of people is able to make changes on a single document that everyone can access, with all the edits tracked.

“By using SharePoint Online we’ve been able to consolidate our file shares, dramatically reduce email attachments, and vastly improve version control,” says Kroeger. “And we’re finding Delve to be extremely helpful for delivering pertinent information, because it learns who you communicate with and what you’re working on and connects them.”

Advanced Threat Protection and Power BI

To complete the portfolio of Cloud services that Kelly is using to stay competitive, they have Exchange Online Advanced Threat Protection to better secure the email of executive and financial staff, and employees also have Cloud-powered analytics to process large amounts of data and visualize answers with Microsoft Power BI.
