Insight Australia delivers unified workflows and improved processes

When a leading automotive company in the Asia-Pacific region needed to unify and consolidate all systems across brands, Insight Enterprises Australia brought the automotive conglomerate’s operations under a single Microsoft 365 umbrella, enhancing collaboration, securing data, fostering innovation, and reducing costs.

Adopting new and emerging technology is critical for business efficiency and growth. But technology adoption can be an intimidating undertaking—which is where Insight Enterprises comes in. A leading solutions integrator and longtime Microsoft partner, Insight works with clients to accelerate their digital journeys and maximize the value of their technology stacks. They work across all Microsoft solution areas to build and implement cloud, software, and hardware solutions addressing cybersecurity, digital workplace solutions, and more, and they also act as change management experts to help clients in their adoption journey.

The Insight difference is found in their deep understanding of their customers’ business needs and challenges and the Microsoft ecosystem. As a 2024 Partner of the Year Award winner, Insight holds Solutions Partner designations across every solution area as well as many specializations; their dedication to the Microsoft ecosystem helps them accurately and effectively recommend and implement customized Microsoft technology.

Veli-Matti Vanamo, Chief Technology Officer at Insight, explained: “Before any sort of implementation, we help our clients understand their business needs and goals, and we provide tailored technology solutions that ultimately drive their success. We serve as guides for our clients, helping them navigate the gap between where they are and where they want to be.”

Managing the inefficiencies of divergent subsidiary operations

The customer featured here is a leading automotive aftermarket enterprise in the Asia-Pacific region, operating a wide network of brands across trade, retail, and specialist wholesale segments. Following a period of acquisition-driven growth, the company set its sights on streamlining operations and modernizing its digital infrastructure.

Subsidiaries were loosely integrated to maintain momentum during the intense acquisition cycle. This loose integration resulted in slowdowns and barriers to true collaboration and business operations. Similarly, the patchwork integration resulted in increased administrative costs and missed opportunities for security and compliance optimization. So when the acquisition cycle had run its planned course, the automotive company shifted their focus to consolidation and unification of all systems across the group.

Their goal was to bring all business units under a unified environment focused on modern work and collaboration. They brought on Insight to review their various environments and help develop a transition plan to a single Microsoft 365 tenant that would form the foundation for their future consolidation initiatives across security and compliance, enterprise application rationalization, and datacenter consolidation to Azure.

Insight was a natural fit for the project, as they already had an extensive partnership with the automotive company. Insight manages their enterprise agreements, acts as the organization’s Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) partner for Azure, and works with them to deliver Microsoft Security and Microsoft Intune-based security and compliance solutions. Their deep knowledge of the customer’s operations empowered them to deliver the deep understanding and technological know-how for a successful engagement.

Unifying the IT experience to drive collaboration

One of Insight’s key strategies for creating a unified environment was addressing duplicate licensing—such as the multiple Microsoft 365 licenses held by subsidiaries of the automotive company—and the varying workflows that resulted from separate Microsoft 365 operations. Consolidating multiple 365 tenants into one modern workplace environment would simplify and streamline IT operations and enhance security.

Insight set up an enterprise agreement between the automotive company and Microsoft to bring the organization’s licensing under one umbrella. This reduced administrative costs, as the customer was able to secure a competitive licensing offer by working as one big unit rather than licensing for multiple smaller units. It also gave them a better understanding of their licensing obligations and the true administrative costs of their digital footprint.

Toli Papageorgiou, the Modern Work and Security Practice Lead for Insight, explained that by the end of the engagement, the automotive company’s administrative overhead for user accounts alone will have been significantly reduced, based solely on the number of tenants requiring management, meaning that technical teams can be better utilized across the group.

Building lasting impact through change management

Insight’s client engagement approach—embedding themselves into the automotive company’s technical teams so they could co-create the solution—was instrumental in creating a smooth transition period. This strategy empowered Insight to support the change management and encourage continuous improvement and innovation.

“Change can be disruptive, so a business dedicated to updating their technology has to implement a really strong change management process to help adoption,” Papageorgiou said about their consulting process. “At Insight, we’re helping them untangle knots that could cause friction down the line and helping them move forward in a scalable way.”

With a unified tenancy, the automotive company experienced streamlined operations and improved collaboration; employees across various segments could collaborate more effectively, using shared resources and tools and unifying—and therefore simplifying—workflows. When Insight’s engagement with the automotive giant ends in August 2025, the solutions integrator will have done more than implement technological solutions that align with their goals—they’ll have given the automotive company the tools to continue improving and innovating.
