The SAM Incentive program is a worldwide channel incentive program designed to help Microsoft partners build sustainable businesses around SAM, by utilizing SAM customer engagements based on a defined scope of work. By participating in the SAM Services Incentive Program, you can introduce customers to SAM best practices—and uncover additional licensing and service-related opportunities that can lead to new sales, consulting, process improvement, and deployment services.
The Microsoft SAM Managed Service Program is designed to provide customers with a continual, governance-based, service to help them more effectively manage their IT assets and processes. The Program, delivered through accredited SAM partners, offers customers unique benefits from Microsoft, including a fresh start with their Microsoft licensing, flexible solutions for technology and licensing optimization, a reduced risk of audit, and more. Customers will also receive ongoing high quality services from their Accredited Partner, such as technology roadmaps to help them meet their short and long term goals, product end-of-life guidance, SAM optimization and maturity reviews, and cybersecurity, cloud, or other value-based consultations.
To participate in this Program, partners must meet initial eligibility criteria and pass a rigorous assessment, based on industry SAM standards, given by a third party Independent Evaluator. Once in the Program, partners will be able to utilize their exclusive status to set themselves apart in the marketplace, drive new business opportunities, gain more exposure, and become trusted advisors to customers through their digital transformation journeys.

A Software Asset Management (SAM) Baseline review involves creating an inventory of deployed Microsoft assets; reviewing corresponding customer license entitlements and virtual, hosted, or cloud-based solutions, a full SAM Optimization Model review; and identifying opportunities for improvement. Through this engagement, partners can provide suggestions for license optimization, as well as help to analyze how customers can capitalize on new computing trends to their maximum benefit.

Help customers identify opportunities to improve their Software Asset Management (SAM) practices by providing a clear picture of where their business currently stands and the steps needed to get where they would like to be. The SAM Optimization Model is a framework that aligns with the ISO/IEC 19770-1:2012 standard and the Microsoft Core Infrastructure Optimization (IO) model. This framework enables you to effectively and consistently evaluate your customers’ SAM practices, and guide them toward process optimization.
Because the SAM Optimization Model is designed to help you provide concrete guidance about improving SAM practices, it can dramatically reduce both the complexity of the SAM Assessment and the time required to perform it.
The Software Asset Management (SAM) Cloud Productivity Assessment is designed for our SAM Partners to engage with new or existing customers who are considering moving part or all of their desktop environment to the Cloud. A SAM Cloud Productivity Assessment should be conducted as a prerequisite to making an informed move from on-premises to Cloud solutions.
The Software Asset Management (SAM) Server Optimization Assessment provides guidance and resources to help customers optimize their server environment while reducing cost, complexity, and compliance risks. Use this assessment to evaluate current deployments and determine optimal usage—be it on premises or in the Cloud.

The focus of a Cybersecurity Assessment is to provide customers with a view of what software is deployed to identify, at a high-level, areas of potential risk, and provide guidance on their cybersecurity programs and policies to help enable effective IT software asset management. The assessment provides a full inventory for the customer to use as the foundation for a more in-depth organizational security assessment.

To help our customers maximize value, minimize risk, and achieve more with their IT investments, we decided to reimagine SAM engagements and introduce the Intelligent Asset Manager (IAM) 2018 platform. IAM 2018 is delivered in partnership with the leading SAM tool providers to allow customers to manage their IT assets actively and systemically. The SAM data-and-analysis platform provides partners who are performing SAM engagements with a standardized process and workflow that ensures data quality, privacy, and security control.
IAM 2018 features two main components:
The core output of IAM’s Universal Inventory (UI) is a standardized, centralized, and de-duplicated view of a customer’s IT infrastructure. This uniquely valuable data can then be used to deliver a variety of helpful insights to customers, ranging from cybersecurity basics to infrastructure optimization to licensing efficiency.
This cloud platform can receive data from UI through a Clean Inventory Data Contract and provide meaningful insights or, upon request, combined with entitlement data to create an Effective Licensing Position.
Training and readiness: whether you are a SAM partner or an ISV with a value, inventory, or normalization solution, visit the official IAM 2018 page to learn more about how to engage with this initiative.
